Behind Strong Forsch, Cardinals Slap Phillies For 5th In Row

ST PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) – Right-hander Bob Forsch worked seven innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 Sunday for their fifth straight exhibition triumph. 

Ken Reitz drove in three runs for St Louis with a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. The 30-year-old Forsch, the Cards’ starter, scattered six Philadelphia hits.

Phils left-hander Randy Lerch surrendered two walks and a single in the second inning preceding Reitz’s one-out single, a hit that established a 2-0 St. Louis lead.

Garry Templeton followed with an RBI single. In the third, the Cards added two more runs when Tony Scott and Roger Freed each singled around Bobby Bonds’ double. 

Philadelphia's lone run off Forsch came on Luis Aguayo's leadoff double in the sixth, a groundout by Pete Rose and Manny Trillo’s single. Templeton had a double and two singles to head an 11-hit St. Louis attack.
