September 1, 1980 - Phillies 6, San Francisco 4

Steve Carlton earned his 21st win.
Steve Carlton earned his 21st win.

Steve Carlton took the mound, and though he wasn't his usual dominant self, it was enough to win this game. He pitched a complete game, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks. Phils hitters had a pretty easy time off of Ed Whitson, scoring four times in six innings, but did not claim the game until scoring two in the eighth against reliever Greg Minton, who lost his fifth game. For Carlton, it was his 21st win of the season. The offense was spread out, with every starter getting at least one hit. Larry Bowa knocked in two runs, and Bowa, Manny Trillo and Bob Boone all went 2-for-4.
