A second-year pitcher in 1980, Saucier was the left-handed set up man out of the bullpen for the Phillies. Although not credited with a save during the season, Saucier did appear in 40 games, giving the team much-needed innings from the bullpen and paving the way for the Tugger to come in to close another victory. In the post-season, Saucier pitched in three games without giving up a run.

Phillies Publications

From The Phillies 1980 Media Guide:

How Obtained:  Phillies No. 2 selection, June 1974; signed by Tom Oliver.

Six-year pro...  Was starter and reliever in his minor league career...  Switched to bullpen last spring training...  Began the year with 2-1 record and 4 saves in 21 games at Oklahoma City when he was recalled...  Used in middle relief with Phillies...  Gutty performer...  1974 Escambia High grad...  Played Little League, Pony and Senior League baseball.

Dallas Green:  "He's kind of a jack of all trades pitcher in that he can start and come out of the bullpen.  I was very pleased with the work he did last year for the major league club.  He got better as he was used more.  And, he's got a ton of guts."

From The Phillies 1981 Media Guide:

Saucier was sent to the Texas Rangers during the offseason following the World Series to complete a trade for Sparky Lyle, and does not appear in the 1981 Media Guide.
