Scott Munninghoff received his lone shot at the big leagues in 1980, jumping from AA Reading to the Phillies coming out of spring training.  However, he was optioned to Oklahoma City on May 19 was never heard from again, not even for a September call-up.  Munninghoff managed to appear in four games for the Phils in April and early May, all in relief.

Four-Year Pro…  Outstanding pitching prospect who jumped from AA ball in 1979 to the Phillies at the start of last season…  After four relief outings with the Phillies he was optioned to Oklahoma City, May 19…  Struggled with delivery in OC and finished 4-9…  Had a string of 21 consecutive scoreless innings for OC…  Pitching coach there, Cot Deal:  “Can at times throw a sinker that would get the best of the big league hitters out.  Needs consistency.  Showed progress late in season with correcting mechanical delivery problems.”…  Named Outstanding Pitcher in the league by Eastern League managers following 1979 year… Was standout pitcher at Purcell High in Cincinnati… He and White Sox’ Richard Dotson (drafted by California Angels) were No. 1 selections the same year out of Cincinnati high schools.  Dotson attended Anderson high.
