Pete Rose scored the deciding run in the 7th inning.

This Monday night game was not one of Steve Carlton's finest efforts, but the effort was good enough to pull out a win for the Phillies. Lefty (7-2) was a bit off, giving up four runs on a staggering ten hits in his seven innings or work. However, the Phils scored five off of Reds' starter Frank Pastore (4-2) in his 6-2/3 innings of work. Pete Rose had two hits and two RBI, while Bake McBride has three hits and a pair of runs batted in. Greg Luzinski sealed the game with his eighth home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Ron Reed notched his first save of the season.
