The Phillies went to their ace to avoid the sweep against Pittsburgh, and Lefty did not disappoint.  Steve Carlton had a rough beginning to his day, but would round into form as the game went on.  The Phils were able to eke just enough offense off of John Candelaria to earn the victory.  With the win, the Phils crept back to within three games of the Pirates, and also kept pace with the Montreal Expos.
