June 20, 1980

The Phils entered an episode of Believe It Or Not on this June day.  Allen Ripley, a journeyman pitcher with a losing record over the season, pitched a one-run complete game against the Phils, stifling the Philadelphia offense enough to earn the San Francisco Giants a victory.  Ripley, who pitched five years for three teams, scattered seven hits to defeat Dan Larson, who was victimized by shoddy defense in surrendering four runs over his six innings of pitching.  Lerrin LaGrow gave up a run in one inning of relief work.  The lone Phils run was scored in the first, when Pete Rose was knocked in by Bob Boone.
