July 27, 1980

The latent Phillies offense finally came alive against the Braves and Rick Matula.  The lineup exploded for 17 runs and 21 hits against Matula and three pitchers from the Braves' bullpen, each of whom gave up at least two runs.  Steve Carlton, the recipient of the offensive renaissance, did not pitch to his usual standards, but he didn't need to - after coughing up a 3-0 first inning lead, Carlton received five more runs in the second, and cruised to the victory.
