July 22, 1980

The struggling Phillies ran into Mario Soto, and he went through the Phils' lineup like a buzzsaw through their bats.  Steve Carlton was wild, and only made it through six innings.  He kept the Reds to three runs (two earned), but that would be enough to beat the Phils' slumbering offense.  Bob Boone did hit his sixth home run of the year in the second, which gave the Phils a short-lived 1-0 lead.  A Schmidt error, a triple by Ray Knight and a single by Dan Driessen gave the Reds the runs to earn the victory in the sixth inning.
